7. GENERALMAINTENANCEINSTRUCTIONS
Duetothequalityoftheseunits,maintenancerequirementsareminimal.Nevertheless,theywillbeinspectedfullyonamonthlybasis.Inthe
sameway,theentirecircuitshouldbecleanedeveryyear.
Itisadvisabletocarryoutcertainactionsregularlyinordertoensurethatyouachievetheservicelifeandpe
rformancethattheseunitshave
beendesignedfor
Therearetwobasicareastocover:
1. Waterrecirculationsystem
2. Airblowingsystem
7.1 Inthewaterrecirculationsystem
Duetothefactthatthesystem sinwhichtheseproductsarebasedarerelatedtoevaporation,somesaltyconce
ntrations,aswellas
suspendedsolidsareproduced.
Therefore,somesecondarywaterflowhastoberemoved,inordertopreventtheconcentrationsinthecoils.Thedrainageconnection
willbeusedtodothis.
Thewaterconditionswillbecontrolledcontinuouslyandautomatically,bypurgingofdirtywaterandre
placementwithclean,addition
ofbio dispersant agentsand biocides,inhibitorsto preventlimescale frombuildingup orthecorrosionofthemetallicpartsofthe
circuit. Several varieties are commercially available and the most suitable shouldbeselected in consultation with specialised firms,
whohavethekno
wledgeofthewaterintheinstallationsandthearea.Becarefulifanyaci d productisbeingused,duetothefactthat
isnotrecommendedthePHtobelowerthan6.5.Anotheraspecttotakeintoconsiderationisthefactthattheproductsbeingused
havetobecompat
iblewiththekindofmaterialscomposingthecoolingtowers.
Theseunitswillbedisinfectedtwiceayear,atthebeginningofspringandofautumn,aswellasinthefollowingcircumstances:
• Beforeputtingintooperation.
• Iftheyhavebeenstoppedforalongperiodoftim
e.
• Whenrepairshavebeencarriedout.
• Whenroutineinspectionsoindicates.
• WhentheSanitaryAuthoritiessodetermines.
Disinfectionwillbecarriedoutusingauthoriseddisinfectants;ifchlorineisused,inject5p.p.m.ofchlorineplusbiodispersantsinto
thebasinandsetthepumpsrunningforfivehours.Thefanswillbestopped.
Following this, all the water will be drained fr
om the circuit and it will be cleaned thoroughly, adding water until the drain wate r
appearsclean.
Finally,itwillbefilledwithcleanwaterandbetween5and15p.p.m.ofchlorinewillbeadded.Thepump
swillbeallowedtorunfor5
hours,withthefansstopped(checkthechlorineleveleveryhour).
Thewaterconditionswillbecontrolledcontinuouslyandautomatically,bypurgingofdirtywaterandreplacementwithclean,addition
ofbio dispersant agentsand biocides,inhibitorsto preventlim
escale frombuildingup orthecorrosionofthe metallicpartsofthe
circuit.
Thewaterwillbedrainedoutofthebasinwhentheunitisnotinuse.
Themaintenancefunctionstobecarriedoutforthedifferentelementsarelistedbelow.
7.1.1 Grid
Thishastobecl
eanedmonthly,orasfrequentlyasthesedimentpresencerequires.
7.1.2 Basin
Thishastobecleanedanddrainedmonthly,orasfrequentlyasthesedimentpresencerequires.
7.1.3 Watermake‐up
Floatvalvewillbecheckmonthly,aswellasthewaterlevelinthebasin,italwayshastowo
rkabovethegridandsuctionlevel
oftheelectricpump.
7.1.4 Electricpump
No special maintenance is needed. After around 10,000 working hours, bearings have to be checked, as well as the
mechanicallocking.
Ifthetowerisbeingstoppedforawhile,theremovalofallwaterinsidethepumpisreco
mmended,bymeansofthedrainage
connectionatthebottom.
VERYIMPORTANT!!WHENRUNNINGTHEPUMPAFTERBEINGSTOPPED,ALWAYSTAKEINTOCONSIDERATIONTHATTHEPUMPMUST
BECHARGED.
7.1.5 Waterdistributionsystem
Thishastobecheckedmonthly.Todoso,someeliminatorblockshavetoberemovedinordertoinspecttheinsidepart.The
fanshavetobestoppedandtheelectricpumpwillbeswitchedon.
The nozzles, whic h are wide passage, with minimum possibilities of brea
king down or blocking, allowing perfect water
distribution(fullcone)overthecoil.Ifbyanychancetheybecomeclogged,theycanbedissembledveryeasily.
Thiswillmeanthatthegridisnotclean,orthedistributionpipesaredirty.
Therefore,thegridwillbecleaned,thenozzleswillberem
ovedifnecessarytodoso,and thepumpwillbeswitchedon,in
ordertoclean thepipes. If the nozzles have to be removed, when reinstalling intheirplace,becar eful to put them in the
correctposition,asshowninfig.10.
